Go bowling without leaving the house. Bowling PC is a cinematic-looking 3D bowling game and is exceedingly simple: Knock down the pins. You control the ball's placement by using the arrow keys, and then use other keys to determine when and where to throw it.
You can play against the computer, or against other people on your PC, and you get plenty of options, such as for which ball to use, whether to play rock music while bowling, the angle of the "camera" that tracks the ball and the game, and so on.
One nice touch: There are good sound effects that mimic the sound a bowling ball makes as it heads down the alley, and when it hits the pins.

When you combine its handsome looks with its great sound and reasonable $1149 price tag, however, it quickly becomes a tasty-looking budget laptop choice. Even so, one major shortcoming will turn off frequent travelers--but I'll get to that soon enough.
Dec 11, 2008 - Welcome back, Samsung. You've been laying low in the U.S. market when it comes to notebooks, but after kicking the tires on the X460, I can honestly say you were missed. I mean, you manage to craft a 14.1-inch thin-and-light all-purpose notebook that's perfectly road-ready and goes toe-to-toe with Lenovo's ThinkPad X300--even though the X300 is an ultraportable-class machine.
May 6 - Like most tablet PCs, Fujitsu's LifeBook T2020 caters to business folk. This laptop may shy away from sex appeal in favor of getting the job done, but it's angling to be a useful, lightweight (3.6 pounds), compact (11.7 by 8.6 by 1.3 inches) package. While it doesn't deliver in speed, it sure is ready for the long haul.
This compact computer is smaller than the standard and midsize tower PCs that fit under your desk, making it ideal for limited work areas. Small case designs vary, too. May 19, 2007 - The HP Compaq dc5750 comes in either a microtower configuration or the desktop orientation that we tested. HP calls the latter model a "small form factor" system, but it's nearly identical in size to Dell's desktop case. It's moderately attractive, with horizontal black fins and some shiny black pieces.
Nov 21, 2006 - As its name implies, the HP dx2200 Business Desktop targets workplace users. This compact system's low price of $738 (as of November 6, 2006) makes it a good match for small and home offices on a budget.

Nov 27, 2008 - The Xi Mtower HAF-SLI gaming desktop is an overclocker's dream. We haven't seen a vendor push a CPU as far as Xi has dared to go here, and it's a testament to the company's craftsmanship: It ratchets up a 3.33-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 to 4.5-GHz of computing power on nothing but a typical--albeit bulky--Cooler Master air cooler.

May 6 - AVADirect's Core i7 SLI/CrossFireX DDR3 Gaming System fails in the naming department, but I'll assume that the company's PC builders were too busy squeezing every last drop of performance out of this impressive machine to come up with a clever label. AVADirect's system isn't the fastest gaming PC we've tested, but it sure comes close. Factor in its $1840 price tag (as of 5/4/09)--nearly half the cost of the most inexpensive computers on our Top 5 Gaming PCs list--and it's hard to resist this system's allure.
Asus W90
May 6 - I'm not sure whether "desktop replacement" accurately describes the heft of the Asus W90VP, but I certainly agree with the included warning not to use it on a lap. Slightly more "monster" than "monstrosity," this luggable goes where it wants with a 16.1-pound body and 17.5-inch-wide frame. But that size--which is big even for a power laptop--allows for desktop-like gaming power, even though other features disappoint.

Mar 11 - The new 17-inch Apple MacBook Pro arrived a little late to the unibody makeover party at Apple: Most of the company's laptop line switched to a thinner, lighter, aluminum design in October 2008. But the new version's metallic exterior isn't the only change. Incremental updates boost processor, system bus, and RAM speeds; but the biggest improvement is in battery design. Apple says that the new laptop's battery is 40 percent larger than the battery in its 17-inch predecessor, and enables the new laptop to run for up to 8 hours on a single charge.
Apr 24 - I'm going to lay this out to you straight: The Samsung N110 is, at its core, a slightly revamped take on the company's NC10. A bit of streamlining (better plastics and a slimmer profile) here and a couple tweaks (immense improvement on the mouse button) there...it all adds up to polishing away blemishes found on the original version. So if you find some echoes between the two reviews, they're entirely intentional.

Feb 24 - Gateway has put all the bells and whistles on its FX6800-01e desktop--it's either a killer value PC or an inexpensive power PC, take your pick. No matter what you call it, this system offers compelling performance for its price. Though it isn't the all-out best value PC for its $1250 price tag, the FX6800-01e did deliver near tip-top results, even in the current-generation games we threw at it.
Feb 24 - We've seen some inexpensive PCs produce stellar performance, but at some point there simply isn't enough oomph available for such a meager investment. That particular deficiency plagues the eMachines ET1161-03, a $400 system that illustrates the need to put more pennies in the piggy bank before making a desktop-PC purchase.
Aug 22, 2008 - Built around the same Gigabyte X48-DS4 motherboard as the top-performing Polywell Poly X4800-Extreme, the MicroFlex 450B steps down a notch or two on other primary components. A 2.83-GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 processor, a single 500GB Seagate ST3500320NS hard drive, and a 512MB ATI 4870 graphics card lurk inside. Though this combo is pared back compared with some other high-end PCs, it still managed a more-than-acceptable WorldBench 6 score of 119 and gaming rates around 200 frames per second.

Nov 25, 2008 - HP's HDX line is fairly straightforward--it courts multimedia fiends. From its double-wide demeanor (with ample room for full QWERTY keys and a keypad) to all the plugs and ports offered here, the HDX18--a fairly fashionable desktop replacement--will stand out on your desk. The HDX18 isn't quite a desktop-destroyer like Toshiba's Qosmio X305 (Toshiba's Qosmio line has a well-deserved rep for awesome performance in games and stellar audio--hang in there, we'll have a review of the X305 up soon enough), but the HDX18's multimedia-mindedness proves that HP is ready to put up a fight. (We've also reviewed HP's HDX16, a very similar entertainment-focused laptop; the main differences are a smaller screen, a smaller hard drive, a slightly plainer keyboard--and a lower price.)
Equipped with the new Centrino 2 processor, Lenovo's ThinkPad X200 looks a mild-mannered ultraportable, and yet it can leap tall workloads in a single bound. Its battery life is phenomenal, and the keyboard is huge. In short, this is a much better notebook than the ThinkPad X61, which it replaces, and a surefire winner for on-the-run execs.
The x200 has a good balance of features and portability, omitting the lesser used features such as the optical drive and firewire to lessen the weight. This model comes with the new Montevina Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40GHz processor and runs Vista without a hitch. It belongs in the ultraportable laptop class (around 3 lbs) but the performance is similar to the other larger ThinkPads. The high resolution 1280 x 800 LCD is a bonus, nicer than the x61.Get the 9 or 6 cell battery if you would like more than 2 hours of usage, but that obviously adds to the weight.

Oct 30, 2005 - The petite XC Cube, in a shiny white plastic case with chrome trim, looks a bit like a swollen Apple Mini. The XC Cube measures just 12.5 inches deep by 8 inches wide by 4 inches tall--about half the size of a typical toaster--so it would fit easily in a small space or sit snugly beneath a monitor.
